“Supporting the construction of intelligent mines, we have the foundation” - Interview with Wang Yi, Chairman of Hunan Chuangyuan High-tech Machinery Co., Ltd.

2022-03-18

Intelligent technology is becoming the core driving force behind industrial transformation. In recent years, China's mining enterprises have vigorously promoted the construction of digital and intelligent mines, gradually realizing the informatization of production, business decision-making, safety and environmental protection management, and equipment control. They have established digital resource reserve models and economic models, built real-time monitoring data chains, and achieved precise management, centralized monitoring, and remote control of various production links, greatly improving resource utilization, production efficiency, and safety and environmental protection levels.

As a major mining country, can China's intelligent equipment manufacturing level meet the needs of intelligent mine construction? Regarding this issue, a reporter from China Mining News interviewed Wang Yi, a member of the Technical Committee of the National Mining Engineering Technology Research Center and chairman of Hunan Chuangyuan High-tech Machinery Co., Ltd. This interview was included on the China Mining News official website and official WeChat account.

China Mining News: The construction of intelligent mines is an inevitable trend, and significant progress has been made in recent years, but there are also some shortcomings. As an expert in this field, what do you think are the shortcomings of China's intelligent mining equipment?

Wang Yi: Many intelligent mining equipment companies have not thoroughly understood the needs of mines, but have instead focused too much on the research of management software, remaining at the level of informationization and neglecting the development of equipment. This has led many mining enterprises to find that while there are many management platforms available when purchasing products, there is a shortage of truly intelligent mining equipment. Objectively speaking, China's intelligent mine construction started relatively late, and there is insufficient reserve and application of advanced manufacturing technologies. In the field of high-end intelligent mining equipment, the proportion of domestically produced equipment is very low. In addition, the shortage of talent also restricts the development of intelligent mining equipment in China.

I believe that this should be addressed from two aspects: On the one hand, the state should increase support for the intelligent mining equipment industry and strengthen the training of intelligent mining equipment personnel; on the other hand, domestic intelligent mining equipment enterprises should focus on high-end breakthroughs, focus on technological innovation, and overcome key core technologies.

China Mining News: In recent years, what level of understanding do you think Chinese mining enterprises have in promoting the construction of intelligent mines?

Wang Yi: Now, everyone's understanding of intelligent mines is becoming increasingly profound, but there are also some misunderstandings. We hope to create more benchmark intelligent mine models to help everyone gain a more comprehensive understanding of intelligent mines.

The current industry trend focuses more on the informatization of platforms, and the interconnection between equipment and platforms is still lacking; most are "pseudo-intelligent." Currently, many companies use "remote control" and "automation" to achieve intelligence, but this merely replaces human capabilities with machines and technology, lacking human wisdom. A true intelligent mine must be a systematic one, possessing both human capabilities and human wisdom, ultimately achieving a mode of autonomous operation of intelligent equipment.

China Mining News: Hunan Chuangyuan High-tech has been committed to creating a national brand of intelligent mining equipment in China and has played an important role in promoting the construction of intelligent mines in China. As the founder of Hunan Chuangyuan, what do you think are the advantages of Hunan Chuangyuan?

Wang Yi: Chuangyuan's strength lies in its possession of systematic and comprehensive solutions. It is currently the only domestic supplier of integrated mining process, intelligent equipment, and central control platform that can achieve autonomous operation of intelligent equipment. Our team has rich experience in the mining industry, and decades of experience have allowed us to be closer to mining enterprise clients, enabling us to understand their needs more systematically and comprehensively.

Moreover, unlike other companies, Chuangyuan's products all have independent intellectual property rights. Currently, we have established research cooperation with Central South University and University of Science and Technology Beijing, and have a professional team composed of senior experts, professors, and young masters and doctoral candidates. Relying on these excellent talents, we have successfully developed China's first cutting slot shaft drilling machine and China's first crawler self-propelled shaft drilling machine. We believe that with everyone's joint efforts, more innovative products with independent intellectual property rights will be launched in the future.

China Mining News: In recent years, China's intelligent equipment enterprises have sprung up rapidly, and technological research and development has also made great progress. Do you think China's intelligent equipment is sufficient to support China's intelligent mine construction?

Wang Yi: Based on the current situation, China's intelligent equipment industry is still in its development stage and has a certain gap compared with developed countries abroad. However, we also have our own advantages. On the one hand, China's manufacturing strength is very strong, and it is transforming into a manufacturing powerhouse, providing an excellent foundation for the development of intelligent equipment. On the other hand, in recent years, China's 5G communication, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, and cloud technologies have developed rapidly and are at the world's leading level. Intelligent equipment can fully utilize the tailwind of advanced technologies to achieve overtaking and surpassing. We believe that it is very likely that China's intelligent equipment will support China's intelligent mine construction, and it will not be too far away.

China Mining News: What suggestions do you have on improving policies to support the construction of intelligent mines?

Wang Yi: The construction of intelligent mines is a complex and systematic project involving mining processes, intelligent equipment, central control platforms, 5G communication, and unmanned driving, among other disciplines. We hope that the state will introduce relevant policies to support and promote the deep integration of advanced technologies such as 5G communication, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things with the mining industry, coordinate the solution of problems encountered in the construction of intelligent mines, and create a good development environment for the construction of intelligent mines.

In addition, China is a major mining country with abundant mineral resources and numerous mining enterprises. Different mines have significant differences in grade, occurrence conditions, etc., and their needs for intelligent mines also vary. In the actual process of mine construction, customized system solutions are needed, including mechanized and intelligent solutions for large and medium-sized mines suitable for China's national conditions, as well as a series of intelligent mining robots such as rock drilling robots, charging robots, wedging robots, and filling robots for small and medium-sized mines. We hope that the state will encourage more intelligent mining equipment enterprises to develop in the direction of customization and systematization, truly serving mining clients and solving their practical needs and pain points.
